My love of Banh Mi is strong (hence the blog title) however I have mainly been disappointed with any I have tried outside of Vietnam. There are a number of factors which impact on my impression of banh mi: The quality of the bread - soft or stale bread is a no go The ratio… Continue reading My Banh Mi Quest
14.34 – Day 9 – Tbilisi
At 2.34pm, I was at yet another wine tasting as part of a walking tour and the servings were ridiculously generous. The guide was super sweet and made us a gift of a guide to Georgia and a lollipop. I was pretty tipsy after and the result was a group selfie in Carrefour!
A lunch crawl
Today was never going to be a healthy day as it is my final day travelling. The excesses started first thing when I was force fed pancakes in the hostel for breakfast with a delightful array of toppings (to be honest I didn't put up much resistance!) I tried to offset the food by walking… Continue reading A lunch crawl
Dunch
I've not eaten since 9am (it's 4.30pm now) and I'm ravenous. I would classify this meal as dunch rather than lunch but I have gone for a tomato and cheese salad, veal barbecue and a beer (for carbs). I'm off for a night photography class shortly so time's short!
14.34 – Day 8 – Tbilisi
I was on a free walking tour looking at a waterfall. I like to do walking tours for a number of reasons: They are cheap They are short You learn some history and actually know what you are looking at You can meet some interesting people.
14.34 – Day 7 – Mestia
I'm currently sat in a bar drinking wine and reading Alone in Berlin. I'm about to embark on a 3 hour bus ride to Zugdidi followed by an 8 hour overnight train to Tbilisi.
Bread
Georgia loves bread and I love bread, I'm frankly in carb heaven. My lunch today was a spicy beef stew served with bread - the ratio of bread to stew is pretty incredible. They have hole in the wall bakeries so I have been trying a variety of wonderful breads including mushroom roll and kachapuri.… Continue reading Bread
14.34 – Day 6 – Chaladi Glacier
The photo was taken a few minutes late as I was focusing on not falling over whilst climbing boulders. I did a trek to visit the Chaladi Glacier and accidentally took the more challenging route climbing over rocks and boulders. I'm pretty clumsy so got a Gandalf stick to help me complete the journey in… Continue reading 14.34 – Day 6 – Chaladi Glacier
Mushroom roll
I'm not doing too well at having a proper lunch but today I had a mushroom roll after my hike.
14.34 – Day 5 – Mestia
At 2.34pm I was having a rest on the side of the road in the shade, blissfully unaware that I had another 6 hours to go! I asked for advice on a hike and I failed to ask key questions such as how long does it take and how difficult is it. I have honestly… Continue reading 14.34 – Day 5 – Mestia
